New Year, New Finish-A-Long Goals from Thistle and Thicket Studio

The holidays flew by and a new year is here, and with it a new year of the Finish-A-Long is beginning. The FAL took a break last year but posted on Instagram that they were ready to start back up again. So here is my very short goals list for the first quarter of 2021.

I decided to just focus on the three sewing challenges that I started in 2020 and hoping this will help me to focus and finish them in a timely manner (ha, ha!).

The Ugly Duckling Challenge - Part 2 from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Yesterday I shared the Ugly Duckling Challenge project I made for our quilt guild exchange (click here to see more) and today I'm sharing the Ugly Duckling Turned Beautiful Swan project that I received. Luckily, my mom drew my name so I was doubly blessed - a pretty, functional gift and a gift made by my mom!

Ugly Duckling Challenge Armchair Caddie by Thistle Thicket Studio's Mom. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
Mom gathered ideas from several sites to design an armchair caddie and I LOVE it! One of the sites she used as a guide was the same site I found my Ugly Duckling pattern. Lillyella has an armchair caddie called the Mini Maker ...

The Ugly Duckling Challenge - Part 1 from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Ugly Duckling Challenge - Sewing Machine Mat by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
Way back in February, mom and I came up with an idea for a quilt guild challenge called the Ugly Duckling. At the meeting, we labeled each piece with an Ugly Duckling tag with their name on it and placed them all in a sack. Then for roll call, each member drew a piece of fabric out of the sack. Their challenge was to make something pretty from the fabric - turning the Ugly Duckling into a beautiful Swan - and then we would ...

A Ribbon Runs Through It - Quilt 2 from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Last Saturday, our quilt guild celebrated their 15th Anniversary with a trunk show, luncheon, make & take activity and a quilt challenge exhibit with friends & members, both past & present. The quilt exhibit was our "A Ribbon Runs Through It" challenge. I managed to finish my second quilt for the challenge a couple of days before our big event. WooHoo!

A Ribbon Runs Through It Challenge - Quilt 2 by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
I didn't name this quilt, so I'm just calling it Quilt 2 (so original). For Quilt 2, I made 6" crazy quilt blocks and then drew a couple of flowers and leaves on Steam-A-Seam 2 and fused to the back ...

A Ribbon Runs Through It - Awaken Wonder from Thistle and Thicket Studio

What!?! Three finishes this quarter for the Finish-A-Long! I'm always thrilled to get anything finished, so I'm super excited to get three things finished from my Q3 goal list (click here to see).

This is my challenge quilt for our quilt guild. The challenge is called "A Ribbon Runs Through It" and the rules are (1) that the finished quilt should measure 18" wide and 36" long; and (2) that each member would be provided with a fat quarter of turquoise fabric which must enter on the left side of the quilt at 3" wide and exit on ...
